An interview to Aviapanorama: CEO Dmitry Shulepov
In an interview to Aviapanorama about the upcoming MAKS-2007 “Aviasalon” CEO Dmitry Shulepov and “Aviasalon” President Yuri Nagaev told us about the measures taken by the airshow organizers after MAKS-2005. These measures are aimed at the improvement of the presentability of the airshow, comfort of the participants and visitors as well as security and excitement. At the same time basic principles, and first of all returning to the scientific basis on a much higher level, are being successfully implemented.
MAKS-2007 will be held on the premises of the Gromov Flight Research Institute.
So far 538 Russian and 243 foreign companies expressed their wish to participate in MAKS-2007. The exhibition will feature 150 aircrafts. An area of 11,800 sq.m. (net) has been reserved in stationary pavilions, 4,500 sq.m. in temporary pavilions, 3,100 sq.m. in arched pavilions and over 8,500 sq.m. at outdoor areas. The actual area of the pavilions (gross) occupied by exhibits is 3,150 sq.m.
The MAKS exhibition complex is continuously modernized. In accordance with the concept of a trading and exhibition complex new pavilions are constantly being built while old outdated ones are dismantled.
In 2007 a demand for chalets turned out to be less than for exhibition areas. Business area is enlarged by two lines of comfortable assembly chalets with total area of 2,000 sq.m. Now it is one unified area not free restaurants, trade points and recreation spots. The exhibition area has the same appearance.
Another big achievement is the construction of the modern pavilion “H”. It is our biggest pavilion. Prior to that we didn’t have the opportunity to gather all foreign participants under one roof, although in previous years there were fewer of them.
Not far away we have the pavilion “I” (at this point an assembly pavilion) with an area of about 4,000 sq.m. Pavilions are equipped with developed network (electricity, water supply system, sewers).
In order to establish connection from the Flight Research Institute communication center to the exhibition complex we have laid an optical fiber line. The big step forward in the information infrastructure is our information terminals. They are considered to be something new in other countries and so far have been installed only at two airshows – in Paris and Dubai. From the viewpoint of airshow organization this will eliminate long lines and crowds of people, because the functions of the terminals are routing according to the interests of a visitor and providing online information about all present and future MAKS-2007 events on the ground and in the sky. They will also allow to provide services and the information for security by access code. Visitors will be able to acquire available media content and possibly tickets to payable MAKS-programs. They will save the main resource – time. When a visitor sees a plane in the sky he or she just has to push one button to get detailed information about the event. And this will be available for everyone.
Most visitors will be fascinated by MAKS flight program. “Russkie Vityazi” and “Strizhi” aerobatic teams have already agreed to take part. Most foreign “flying participants” will also appear at MAKS-2007. Among them the B-52, two F-15, KC-135, C-17, Patrole de France, two Mirages etc. Negotiations about the participation of the F-16 aircrafts are in process. A letter with a request has been sent to the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force. In this letter we ask to allow the participation of their main rivals – pilots of the Lipetsk Combat and Conversion Training Center.
The tramp card of the airshow flight program will be FAI Gran Prix of advanced aerobatics. In Russia such an event will be held for the first time. Usually it is held in Europe, Japan or UAE. World’s nine best pilots will demonstrate stunt-flying with colored smoke accompanied by carefully selected musical pieces. The winner will be decided by a judge panel.
MAKS-2007 will once again hold theme science conferences organized by the Zhukovsky Central Aerodynamics Research Institute. The goal is not just to return the Airshow in Zhukovsky its scientific component but to make the science at MAKS airshows many-faceted, practical and constructive. All state scientific centers will be gathered together in Pavilion “A”. Grouping will be made according to the field of scientific research, not based on the geographic or any other principle.
“Aviasalon” will hold a series of small science conferences and seminars independently, developing its own activity. For example the conference of flight simulators construction and the 2nd conference dedicated to the problems of flight security will be held separately and independently. As for the university science, a united university exposition will be a joined effort of Russia’s leading universities including Moscow State University, Moscow Aviation Institute and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The invitations to foreign research institutes and universities have been sent as well.
The most important quality result is the return of participants from China. The Chinese didn’t participate in MAKS last time and a serious work has been made change the situation: Aviasalon representatives flew to China, negotiations with the representatives of Rosprom and Ministry of Industry and Energy were held. We also invited Chinese delegates. All this work has yielded results – China will be an active participant at MAKS. The main Chinese participants are AVIC1, AVIC2, CAST and CASIC. They will occupy 400 sq.m. in Pavilion “H”.
Speaking about the program of MAKS-2007 we should say that apart from university science and many other programs of the airshow the interest of the younger generation towards aviation will be strengthened by a MAKS-2007 children’s program. It will include children’s performance before the participants, meeting with pilots and crews, displays and demonstrations of aircraft models prepared by students of aerospace lyceum, organized by the present Aviasalon top managers in 1992.
